For my PhD I am working amongst others on the topic of collaborations between composers and performers during the process of composing a new piece. To be able to collect evidence of other collaborations in the new music scene, I would like to ask the new music field about their experiences in collaborations.
I am interested in all kind of creative processes when a performer and a composer come together and develop a new piece. As an example:
What are the key characteristics of effective creative teams?
What was your working goal (kind of composition, written score, improvisational score, written for certain features of the player or the used instrument)?
Have you worked on more than one piece together? Was there a development in the way you worked together?
How did you influence the creative process? Can you tell which idea stems from which person?
How big is your collaborative team? (2 persons, 1-10, more than 10 people)?
What kind of knowledge exchange were you profiting from (Instrumental knowledge, literature knowledge, compositional knowledge, stage knowledge etc.?)
In which way have you as a composer profited and got inspired from working closely with a performer?
In which way have you as an instrumentalist/performer profited and got inspired by working with a composer?
Would you say the way you worked together resulted in problem solving or problem finding creativity? (Problem solving creativity =finding solutions for problems which appear during the creative process, problem finding creativity = by working together you opened up new options/problems, which led to even more surprising or innovative thoughts?)
